Wings of the Feather River:
Memory & Renewal in Maidu Country
A story of Indigenous memory, advocacy, and responsibility along the Feather River.

Film Synopsis:
A powerful story of memory, renewal, and Indigenous leadership, Wings of the Feather River follows Maidu community members as they reconnect with the Feather River and reflect on the lasting impacts of the Oroville Dam. Through storytelling, cultural knowledge, and advocacy, the film centers Indigenous voices too often left out of conversations about land, water, and the future of environmental stewardship in California.
More about this project
The Feather River Advocacy Project (FRAP), led by Redbud Resource Group, brings together Indigenous, community leaders, and advocates to explore the history, impact, and future of the Feather River watershed. Through community-based learning and storytelling, the project creates space for Indigenous voices and perspectives that have historically been absent from regional conversations about water, land, and infrastructure.
At the center of this work is a short documentary film that tells the story of the Oroville Dam through the lived experiences and perspectives of Indigenous communities whose relationships with the Feather River extend back generations. While the dam is often discussed through the lens of engineering, policy, and disaster response, Indigenous perspectives on the river and its transformation have rarely been included in those narratives.
